One of the most important things a college student or recent graduate needs to remember is that when a recruiter or hiring manager interviews them, they’re also interviewing the potential employer, says Justin Bischoff, a talent recruitment consultant at Buffalo Wild Wings, a casual. That’s what impresses corporate recruiters today, says Asma Anis, a talent consultant at Blue Cross, a health care provider in Minnesota. She manages college relations at Blue Cross and is one of the first to interview/phone recent college graduates and entry-level employee interviews for the company.
Job applicants who ask about the challenges of the position stand out, says Anis. Employers like candidates who want to be challenged and know what it takes to succeed in the role. “It helps me understand their desire to take on certain tasks,” says Anis.

Ennis likes when applicants ask interview questions like, “What are the job expectations or how will I be evaluated?”
“These students got grades for everything they’ve done in the last few years,” says Anis. “These millennials want to know where they stand, and I appreciate that. That tells me they want to perform well and be rewarded for it.
Training The question to ask is: Is there training or mentoring for this role? Anis says that job seekers who want an opportunity for professional development stand out for it.
Corporate job seekers interested in the company, the strategic plan, how the company is making a difference and whether the company is growing are “big questions,” Anis says. “That tells me they care about the welfare of the organization and its future.”

“The likelihood of having enough time to ask a lot of questions is small, so the candidate should be prepared and prepare some questions,” says Snell. “Interviews are a two-way street, and employers really expect applicants to be prepared with thoughtful, insightful questions.”

As the interview draws to a close, and if the employer hasn’t brought it up yet, Clark says you should always ask: What are the next steps in the interview process?
“It’s important that you know what to expect and when to contact them if you haven’t heard from them,” says Clark.

Another good question, says Warne, is “How does your company encourage its employees to collaborate/work as a team and show integrity and initiative?”
