Should A Woman Wear Her Hair Up Or Down For An Interview – 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 talks about women and head coverings. The focus of 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 is obedience to God’s commands and the “chain of the law.” The “veil” on a woman’s head symbolizes God’s order, authority, and power. The gist of this verse is 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” The implications of this verse are seen in other passages. Order: God the Father, God the Son, Man or Man, Woman or Wife. A believing Corinthian wife’s veiling or covering her head indicated that she was under the control of her husband, and therefore of God.
In this chapter verse 10: “For this reason a woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because the angels.” Why is this important to angels? The relationship between God and man is something angels observe and learn (1 Peter 1:12). Therefore, women’s submission to God’s rule is a model for the angels. Holy angels who are perfect in obedience to God expect us to do the same as followers of Christ.

The veil is not just a dress, it also refers to a woman’s long hair. How can we tell? We have to take this verse in its context or wherever. “Does not your own appearance teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a shame in his eyes? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; therefore, according to this scripture, a woman who wears her hair long shows herself not as a man, but as a woman. This is a profound spiritual teaching, and it involves submission to God’s will and order.

But why is hair so controversial in this industry? The apostle Paul is talking about the Corinthian culture that was allowed to disturb the church. Because a shaven woman is shameful (and a sign of mourning in Jewish terms, Deuteronomy 21:12). His hair is his “glory” (1 Corinthians 11:15). In Corinthian culture, women often wore headdresses as a symbol of submission to their husbands. Paul insists that following traditional law is legitimate: covering women’s heads sends the wrong message to the culture. In fact, Paul says that if a Christian woman refuses to cover her head, she can also cut her hair (verse 6). In that culture, a woman who refuses to dress is basically saying, “I refuse to obey God’s law.” Thus, the apostle Paul teaches the Corinthians that wearing long hair or a “veil” made by women is an outward expression of the heart’s attitude of obedience to God and His decrees.
God’s law is that since God is the head of Christ, the husband is the head of the wife, but no inequality or inferiority is shown. God and Christ are equal and united, just as husband and wife are one. This is not a passage that teaches women to be inferior to men or to submit to any man. It teaches God’s order and spiritual direction in the marriage relationship. In the Corinthian tradition, a woman who covered her head during prayer or in public showed her submission to authority.
In today’s culture, we don’t think of women as covering their heads as a sign of submission. Scarves and hats are fashion accessories in many modern societies. Women are allowed to cover their heads if they see it as a sign of submission to their husbands. However, it is a personal choice, not something that should be used to judge spirituality. The most important thing here is an attitude of submission to God’s authority and “like Jehovah” to His established system (Ephesians 5:22). By covering the head, God is more concerned with the nature of obedience than with the appearance of obedience. 1 Timothy 2:9-10: “I want women to dress well, not in embroidered headdresses, or gold or pearls, or expensive clothes, but in what is fitting for women who profess to worship God.”
