The older I get the easier it is for me when it comes to my makeup. My 3 minute product makeup application is still available. This means it should be as quick and easy as my regular hair care. You all know I absolutely love my side braids or loose waves. But sometimes I don’t have time and patience to do all that work. That’s why you’ve noticed that I’ve been wearing my hair back a bit lately.
How To Put Bun In Short Hair
Thanks to Blair Eadie I started wearing my hair in a low bun. It is the voice, the face and the phenomenon behind it

. I loved him and followed him for years for good reason, his style is second to none. But she’s still tired of having her hair “done” since a few years ago she was rocking the back bun to absolute perfection. She also did a full tutorial on how she got her iconic hairstyle here.
But alas, Blair has long, beautiful hair and here I am with my bob. Don’t get me wrong, you know I love my short hair! But getting everything back without small pieces flying everywhere can be a challenge. It took me a while to figure out how to do a small back bun on short hair. I created my own tutorial using Blair’s technique and adding a few tricks of my own. It takes a few minutes to achieve but lasts all day without touching up.
My morning routine is shower, hair and then makeup. But on days when I want to do my chic low bun, I partially blow dry my hair so it’s still a little damp. Or I start with dry hair that was blow-dried a few days ago. What matters is that my hair is straight, parted in the middle and not recently curled or braided.
I put a generous amount of hair cream or oil in my palms (I love Dae’s Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Styling Cream, I also use Function Of Beauty’s Hair Oil) and warm it up with my hands. I apply the cream all over, starting at the ends and slowly working my way to the roots. The serum helps reduce any flyaways and sets the hair up for success for the next step.

I’ve tried this style a million times with a regular brush and/or comb and nothing works as well as a boar bristle brush. There are many boar bristle brushes out there, including this $85 DryBar option. I found this boar bristle brush at Whole Foods for $7 and it does the job. No, it’s not perfect. I might personally suggest upgrading to the $30 version.
Boar brush is made from natural boar bristles and wood or synthetic base. Its fibers have a unique texture that helps distribute natural skin oils evenly throughout the hair. This feature makes boar bristle brushes ideal for creating sleek hairstyles like my bag, helping to achieve a smooth, polished look, by taming frizz and evenly distributing hair products without damage or static.
The main part of the chic low tutorial is how to pull your hair back. So the best thing about a boar bristle brush is that it smooths your hair. She keeps it tight on her head and controls all those flyaways with this hair serum. Once the hair is pulled back and smooth and flat, I secure it with a low braid with a hair elastic.
To create the bun look, I simply twist the hair at the end of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair clip. Then I take an elastic hair clip with a hook (I use these from Amazon and they will change your life!) and wrap them around the newly made bun.
Buns For Short Hair: 20 Cool (and Easy) Styles To Try
Again, my hair is short, so being careful with the length of the hair will determine how much hair sticks out of the bun twist. We hope the hair serum and boar bristles and tight curls will save as much hair as possible. But don’t stress if some run away…that’s the next step.
Where the hair is flying, I protect everything I can with my teeth. Now, with my short hair, it’s almost impossible for me to get all the little hair back. And I’m fine with that. Like my French twist tutorial – as long as my hair is pulled back into a sleek low bun on the top and sides, I don’t mind if it’s a little imperfect.
Once my hair is secured, I spray it with hairspray to really secure the hairstyle. If I still have flyaways on the top and sides of my head, I put a little more hair serum or conditioner in my hand and smooth gently. So… that’s it!

Who grew their hair out for donuts or ballet lessons? Most of us have ditched the “princess bride” of making donuts, and taking the bag down a bit gives you a more muted, timeless look that I love. I got rid of the bangs over a decade ago, but I miss them because of my mom, who has shoulder-length hair, and Nori, who has very fine hair. I got this set for $6 (2 color options) and it comes with 2 full sizes and 2 small and both ladies enjoyed their donuts!
As an alternative to my messy top bun (see tutorial), I often use this low bun for a variety of looks. It works with casual sweaters for a cozy style or with statement earrings or headbands for a more stylish and edgy look. To mix it up, I like to keep my buns to the side or wear them under a wide hat (straw or wool). Check out some of these examples from past years below!
1. Pull hair into a low ponytail and secure with a rubber band. Pull the ponytail over the bun.

2. Spread the hair over the bun like a waterfall, then pull another hair band to secure it. For thin hair, it is easier if you slightly moisten the tail.
3. Your bun may separate from the head slightly at this stage. Press the backpack against your head with one hand. With your other hand, grab the strand and tie it across your scalp, through the bun section, and tie it back to your head. Repeat around the outer edge of the cake with the other toothpick.
4. If you want, pull a few pieces of lining on the face for a softer look, or enjoy it.
Note that buns don’t work well for those with very long and thick hair because there isn’t a lot of hair underneath.
